Watercolor portraits
Students applied their knowledge from portraiture lessons to create introductory self-portraits. After creating a sketch of themselves, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students explored mediums by utilizing watercolor, markers, and color-pencils to add color.
Paper Mache Monsters
Groups of 6th grade students collaborated to create frightening monsters for Halloween. They used donated plastic bags, tape, and paper mache to build their creatures. The last step was to paint them with acrylic to make them come to life!
symbolic textiles
Students used their research about symbolism within art, iconography, street signs, and many other sources to create textile pieces using symbols of their own. After brainstorming and developing a message for their pieces, 6th and 7th grade students translated their words through the series of visual characters they developed and constructed hypnotizing, abstract pieces.
City perspective
Following the 1 and 2 point perspective lessons and practices, 7th and 8th grade students applied their knowledge to create lively city corners. They worked with their limitations of blue, red, yellow, white, and black paint and were unafraid to experiment with color mixing to make vibrant palettes for their cities.
Bunny rooms
7th and 8th grade students learned to hand crochet bunnies and flex their creativity by making spaces for their little friends. Using materials donated from the community of students, teachers, and parents, students were able to explore a wide range of new materials and create elaborate mini rooms.
